What Is Time Blocking?
Time blocking is a time management tool that allows you to organize your time visually. Instead of chasing tasks from a never ending to-do list, you manage your time by designating certain chunks of time for certain tasks.
Time blocking is a powerful tool. It forces you to use a finite amount of time in which to complete your tasks. This holds you accountable and allows you to get more things done.
For example: when you operate from a to-do list, you tend to take as long as you take to complete each task. You concentrate on crossing things off the list, rather than how long it takes you to get things done.
With time blocking, you only have a certain amount of time each day to perform certain tasks. This built in deadline keeps you focused on the task at hand, and motivates you to get things done.
By using time blocking you will better understand how you use your time. You’ll learn how long it actually takes you to do things. You’ll be able to fine tune how you schedule things. Your productivity will increase the more you time block.
